Self motivation is key to achieve all kind of goals in one’s life. But it is equally hard for a person to stay motivated all the time.

Every single person feels low at some point of their life and needs motivation in some or the other form.

Here are some strategies to help you stay motivated when you are not feeling it. Implementing these simple steps in your life will help you increase your productivity level as well as your efficiency with which you work.

1. Make sure the goals are yours

Whenever you are working on a task or a project, make sure you feel passionate to do the same. Don’t do it just for the sake of meeting your deadlines.

The goal should be YOURS, even if you are working for a company or a management, still you must complete the work wholeheartedly.

That’s why it is advised for a person to build a business around their passion because, when you are doing a particular task that you truly love or are really interested in then it’s not hard for you to find motivation.

2. Don’t be to hard on yourself

Sometimes, while working or even studying we tend to overburden ourselves with a load of tasks and deadlines.

It may lead to mental and physical stress, which will in longer run decrease your efficiency and will also affect your health and well-being.

Some signs that you are being too hard on yourself are negative self- talk, trouble sleeping and many more.

As a part of overcoming the same, learn to accept your weaknesses, make sure you surround yourself with people who want you to succeed and DON’T UNDERESTIMATE YOURSELF.

3. Reward yourself

One of the ways with which you can self motivate yourself, is by rewarding yourself with something for accomplishing the weekly goals.

The reward can be as little as having your favourite ice-cream or even watching a movie or series.

This will help you complete task within the given time as you will be motivated to complete it and take over the reward.

You should make sure that once you reward yourself, you can’t just consider it as the FINISH LINE or a stopping point. You’ll have to START OVER to with the next task.

4. Break your task into manageable pieces

Whenever you are provided with a task, make sure you break the task down.

When you see a bulkier task, you tend to procrastinate. When you have broken down your task, you can accommodate them according to your schedule which will help you to NOT feel overburdened.

So, make sure the amount of your work is manageable and it can be accomplished in the given deadline. Also, make sure that the deadline you have set is REALISTIC.

5. Remind yourself WHY you set the goal

Setting goals gives you long- term vision and short-term motivation.

Each goal should have a reason behind and that reason should be your motivation booster.

You can always remind yourself of all the times you were criticized or you were told that you are not good enough. Just remember all of those incidents that put you down, it’ll make you want to PROVE YOURSELF and will make you feel motivated.

Whenever, you reach a saturation point or feel demotivated just remind yourself WHY you are accomplishing your task and what will you gain from the same.

6. Consistency is key

Consistency is key to success. However hardworking you are, or dedicated you are, you must have a routine and you should follow it on a day-to-day basis. Being consistent will help you become a successful person.

7. Look back at what all you’ve achieved

Sometimes, in life our previous achievements are our greatest motivation booster. Instead of focusing on what you didn’t get done, focus on what you did achieve – both big and small, planned and unplanned, recognize its importance and celebrate it

Whenever you are feeling low, just go through all of the things you have achieved in the past. Not only will it make you feel good but it will also make you realize that you are capable of achieving bigger things in your life.

8. Look at the bigger picture

A particular task/goal is not just limited to the present situation. While accomplishing a goal, you need to see the complete perspective of the issue.

For example, thinking about how your current profession is going to help you in your personal growth not the company you are working in.

It will help you see the future possibilities and will help you to stay on track. You should be capable of seeing the consequences of your current acts. Seeing the BIGGER PICTURE will keep you motivated to complete the task.

9. Beat procrastination

We always tend to do the easiest things on our to-do that don’t need much of hard-work and time. The more bulkier and complex tasks remain untouched for a long time.

So, the next time you see a complex task, make sure you break it down in manageable pieces and then work on it piece by piece.

It will help you keep a track of all the things that you’ve accomplished and will motivate you to keep on going with the task.

10. Surround yourself with like- minded people

It is natural, healthy and important for people to rely on their friends and take advice from them. Peers can be positive and supportive or sometimes they can have a negative impact on you.

They can help each other develop new skills, or stimulate interest in books,or extracurricular activities but at the same time they maybe the ones involving you into some of the things that you may regret doing on a longer run.

So, it is very important for a person to surround themselves with like- minded people. People who will be a support in their lives no matter what happens and will also motivate you to achieve your goals.

11. Keep a Journal

Keeping a journal will help you keep a track of all the things you have done on a particular day. Not only does regular writing make you feel good, it helps you re-live the events you experienced in the past where you can process them without fear or stress.

When your head is filled with a lot of things, journaling will help you clear your mind. You can write down all of your thoughts and when you re-read them, those thoughts may even be a tool for self- improvement.

12. Seek out for positive information

Each and every person has their own attitude towards life. The attitude you choose for yourself will determine whether you allow yourself to be filled with self-doubt or whether you generate energy for yourself.

Attitude is a way of looking at things or point of view, thus if you possess a positive attitude, it will help you to have a better physical and psychological well-being.

Having a positive outlook on life will not only help you but will also be beneficial for the people around you, your family or even your coworkers or classmates.
